What is Yoga Nidra?

According to Marsha, Yoga Nidra is “a powerful, ancient form of guided meditation that induces relaxation and healing of the body, mind and spirit”.

Yoga Nidra is different from other forms of meditation in that it’s focus is on the conscious awareness of the deep sleep state. The word “Nidra” means deep sleep, but during the meditation, you will not actually sleep. Rather, participants will be guided to go beyond the state of dreaming and into the consciousness of a deep sleep while remaining awake. Conscious awareness of light breath allows the Yoga Nidra practitioner to withdraw all senses into the deep folds of the mind, relying only on the sense of hearing to maintain place in the meditation.

Through such deep, dreamless “sleep” practitioners report reduction of chronic pain, fatigue and insomnia. When this happens, people release negative patterns in life and learn how to manage stress at its deepest levels. In addition, regular Yoga Nidra practice promotes self-inquiry and personal transformation.

Workshop participants will learn:

  • about the Yoga Nidra theory and how to use Yoga Nidra in their daily life;
  • how to share Yoga Nidra with others to help reduce symptoms of stress and trauma;
  • how Yoga Nidra serves to remove obstacles in our lives that keep us from living our most authentic and meaningful life
