Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage, similar to Swedish massage, the goal is to reduce stress, relax tense muscles, improve circulation and mobility and promote a general sense of well-being. It has been shown to improve circulation and help to decrease swelling, as well as varicose veins. Regular massage throughout pregnancy improves posture, muscle tone and flexibility, all of which, are important for a healthy delivery. It has also shown to help reduce sciatic nerve pain experienced by many women in the last trimester of pregnancy as the uterus rests on the muscles of the pelvic floor and lower back.

Benefits of Prenatal Massage include:

  • Relief from muscle cramps, spasms and pain
  • Reduction in swelling
  • Reduced joint pain
  • Decreased stress
  • Aids in more restful sleep

Note that massage is not suggested during the first trimester of pregnancy.
