About Lotusfest

LotusFest began in 2015 as the product of an assignment given to 6 students enrolled in a Yoga Teacher Training Course in Muncie, IN. The foundation of the “Yoga Karma” assignment was for students to design an event and it had to be about truly giving without expecting anything in return. The students decided to host a wellness fair to inform the community about the wellness services offered in Muncie and the surrounding area. In addition to educating the community about local wellness services and products, the students wanted to support a local organization that worked for the betterment of the community; students donated all proceeds from the fair proceeds from to the Muncie Animal Shelter.

The LotusFest event was a successful Karma project!

In a festive atmosphere filled with drummers, Belly dancers, demonstrations and vendors with products including jewelry, and pottery, people learned about opportunities to improve their quality of life and the products and services in the Muncie and surrounding areas that can contribute to their health and wellbeing.

Every 30 minutes there were mini-lectures about wellness including talks by Dr. John Peterson (Physician of Ayurveda), local counselors of mental health, pain management, and couples enrichment, dietary instruction and advice, and meditation. There were also demonstrations outside showcasing Belly dancing, drumming, martial arts and yoga. Participants enjoyed free massage, free yoga, live drum music, Belly dancers, and a food vendor. In addition, vendors had information about health and wellness products and services, and various products for sale. Vendors also donated products to be raffled off for the benefit to help raise funds for the Muncie Animal Shelter.

The first LotusFest was a great success and is now an annual event.
